Day 22: again and again and again

Today I realized something.  That I’m doing a lot of the same moves over and over again.  For a second I thought, “Oh, I need to learn a ton of new moves.”  But then I remembered that I’m only on day 22 of my 100 day experiment.

And to actually get really good at something you have to do it again and again and again.  For years.

All that to say, I’ll still be adding moves as time goes on but it’s just as important that I refine the skills I’m already working on.

Tip of the day: You don’t have to learn a new move everyday.

Day 21: I didn’t want to but I did it

I filmed my day 20 update video last night at midnight.  That’s the only time my friend and videographer Ethan was able to meet.

Today is a day I normally dance.  And if I’m honest, today I didn’t want to.  I mean – after rocking the house last night I figure I deserved a day’s rest.

But ya know what?  I practiced anyway.  Here’s why: because there’s never been a time where after I danced I said, “I can’t believe I just practiced.  That was so stupid.”  And I don’t think I will ever say that.

This is what I like to a call “motivation to keep going when you get really tired and you want to not exercise one day and then it gets easier to not go the next day and then you give up and quit and feel horrible about yourself and start over again when new year’s resolutions come around and then the whole cycle repeats again.”

I didn’t want to but I did it.  And it was worth every second.

Tip of the day: Cliché but true, don’t give up and keep practicing.

About

Hi, I’m Brian Sun.  I’ve always wanted to be a b-boy.  In high school, my friends and I watched videos over and over again of windmills, flares, and headspins.  However, the life of a b-boy was a dream to me as I never had the courage to actually do it.

Now I’m 25 years old and still fascinated with the world of b-boying.  Apparently, only posers use the term “breakdancing” so I will use “breaking” and “b-boying” most of the time (and maybe breakdancing, sometimes). For 100 days, I’m going to conduct The B-boy Experiment.  Instead of just watching videos, talking a lot of talk, and daydreaming, I’m going to learn how to breakdance.

During this time, free YouTube videos, various b-boying sites, and any friends I make along the way will be my guide.  After each day of practice, I will blog about my experience.  And I’ll post a video of my progress after every ten days of actual practice.

After 100 days of practice are over, the experiment will be officially done.  Hit me up on the my latest update video and follow the experiment on Twitter.
